The Royal Adelaide Show – 30 August to 8 September

Entry cost: adults $24.50, children $15.50, family $59 (pre-purchase prices)

Location: Adelaide Showgrounds, Wayville

The annual Royal Adelaide Show is a South Australian institution that dates right back to 1844 with attractions for all ages, including entertainment, show-bags, rides, competitions and animal exhibitions. There is also a spectacular fireworks display held each evening of the event, as well as plenty of food and drink options. The Show is a great day out for the whole family that attracts up to half a million attendees across the ten days each year.

SANFL Finals Series – 31 August to 22 September

Cost: adults from $15, under 18 free

Location: Adelaide Oval

The SANFL Final Series is played over weekends in September, culminating in the Grand Final on Sunday 22 September to decide the 2019 state football league premiers. The Glenelg Tigers are the strong favourites to take out their first premiership flag since 1986, having enjoyed a stellar season. Strong opposition will come from Port Adelaide and Adelaide, whose AFL reserves sides play in the SANFL, and who finished the minor round in second and third places respectively. Traditional clubs, Sturt and Norwood round out the finals contenders, making for an intriguing four weeks of football.

Barossa Gourmet Weekend – 6 to 8 September

Cost: various

Location: various locations around the Barossa Valley

A weekend that showcases the best of the world-renowned Barossa Valley, offering wine tastings, dining experiences, masterclasses, entertainment options and garden parties. There are 28 events to choose from, including a Gourmet Trail pass that will take in thirteen of these. To help you get around to the attractions, there’s even a bus loop service, all complemented by plenty of local accommodation.

Festival of Nature – 14 to 22 September

Cost: various, including some free events

Location: Yankalilla and surrounds

A nine-day program of activities along the Fleurieu Coast to celebrate the natural environment and promote sustainable living. Try snorkelling, kayaking or hiking with an expert guide, or learn new skills by attending a workshop or the outdoor living expo. Local food, wine and craft beers will also be available to complete the experience.

Yorke Peninsula Field Days 24 – 26 September

Cost: $15 (pay at the gate).

Location: Paskeville SA

Established in 1894 the Yorke Peninsula Field Days are acknowledged as the oldest in Australia. The three day biennial event has a major focus on agriculture and the future with extensive displays of the latest agriculture machinery and equipment, technology, information and services on a 30 hectare static display site area.

The event program includes Fashion Parades, working sheep dogs, wool and sheep, excellent guest speaker presentations, quality crafts and general interest products and services – over 700 exhibitors. Overall the event provides a wide variety of quality display and demonstrations designed to be of interest and appeal to both rural and urban families.
